How Does One Become a Worshiper?

Posted on January 25, 2012 by Matt Jury under Tom Wells

Worship is a response to greatness. A man does not become a worshipper merely by saying, ‘Now I shall become a worshipper.’ That is impossible. That cannot be done. A man becomes a worshipper when He sees something great that calls forth his admiration or his worship.

Tom Wells, A Vision for Missions, p. 23

Completely Available

Posted on January 24, 2012 by Matt Jury under Tim LaHaye

To be filled with the Holy Spirit, one must make himself completely available to God to do anything the Holy Spirit directs him to do. If there is anything in your life that you are unwilling to do or to be, then you are resisting God, and this always limits God’s Spirit! Do not make the mistake of being afraid to give yourself to God!

The Missionary Motive

Posted on January 23, 2012 by Matt Jury under John R. W. Stott

The highest of missionary motive is neither obedience to the Great Commission (important as that is), nor love for sinners who are alienated and perishing (strong as that incentive is, especially when we contemplate the wrath of God), but rather zeal — burning and passionate zeal — for the glory of Jesus Christ.

John R. W. Stott, Romans: Good News for the World, p. 53

The Love of Christ Is Rich and Free

Posted on January 21, 2012 by Matt Jury under Music

The love of Christ is rich and free;
Fixed on His own eternally;
Nor earth, nor hell, can it remove;
Long as He lives, His own He’ll love. Continue reading →

What Does a Healthy Church Look Like?

Posted on January 20, 2012 by Matt Jury under A. W. Tozer

What the church does is what the individuals do. How well or how sick the church is depends on how well or sick the individuals are.

Discipleship Is Expensive

Posted on January 19, 2012 by Matt Jury under Uncategorized

Jesus asks us to invest our lives in Him, for although salvation itself costs nothing, discipleship will cost us everything.

Worship Results from Biblical Truth

Posted on January 18, 2012 by Matt Jury under Scott Aniol

Worship is a spiritual response to God as a result of understanding biblical truth about God.

Man’s Standards Always Fail

Posted on January 17, 2012 by Matt Jury under Francis Schaeffer

If standards are raised which are not really scriptural… it can only lead to sorrow. If we try to have a spirituality higher than the Bible sets forth, it will always turn out to be lower.

Francis Schaeffer (1912-1984)

Pastor, You Have the Joy and Privilege To Preach!

Posted on January 16, 2012 by Matt Jury under John Piper

[The] highest joy [of preaching] is in the great ambition that is set before it, the glorifying of the Lord and the saving of the souls of men. No other joy on earth compares with that. The ministry which does not feel that joy is dead.

John Piper, Desiring God, pp. 109-110
