Prayer and Mercy
The man in the boat who with his hook takes hold of the shore, does not thereby pull the shore to the boat, but the boat to the shore. And so in prayer we do not draw the mercy to ourselves, but ourselves to the mercy.
Pastor, Do You Preach Christ?
We preach Christ and Him crucified. No Christ in your sermon, sir? Then go home, never preach again until you have something worth preaching.
You Can Never Think Too Highly of Christ
We can never make too much of Christ. Our thoughts about the Church, the ministry, and the sacraments, may easily become too high and extravagant. We can never have too high thoughts about Christ, can never love Him too much, trust Him too implicitly, lay too much weight upon Him, and speak too highly in His praise. He is worthy of all the honor that we can give Him. He will be all in heaven. Let us see to it, that He is all in our hearts on earth.
Glorifying God by Enjoying Him
In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him
The Reason for Joy
The purpose of rejoicing is not so we can feel better emotionally (though that will happen). The purpose of joy is to glorify God by demonstrating to an unbelieving world that our loving and faithful heavenly Father cares for us and provides for us all that we need.
Infinite Righteousness
There is something infinitely vast and glorious in the righteousness of God.
A Shameless Plug for My Book
For today, I am going to break from the regular practice where I post a quote.
I am going to use this post for a shameless plug to promote a Bible study / devotional book I am writing. The book is a devotional study of all of the 3.16’s of the Bible. The link to the website is 316book.com.
Please go to the website and interact with the Scriptures. I recommend that you read the “About the Website” page first.
I will post a new chapter summary two or three times each week, so click the “Follow” button to keep up with the updates on the website.
Oh, when will this book be available? My goal is the Summer of 2013. I am in the final drafts of the book now, but I work on it as I am able to take personal time to work on it.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your support.
You Are the Music
Sacred Music Is a Kind of Preaching
In reality, sacred music is a form of preaching; it preaches to the heart through the head.
