The Word and the Music

Posted on February 9, 2011 by Matt Jury under Uncategorized

Our churches … must recover the centrality of the Word in our worship. Music is a biblically require response to God’s Word, but the music God gave us was not given to build our churches upon. A church built on music — of whatever style — is a church built on shifting sands.

Why We Get Little from Our Bibles

Posted on February 4, 2011 by Matt Jury under H. A. Ironside

Unquestioningly, the paramount reason why we get, as a rule, so little out of God’s Word, is because of the appalling lack of self-judgment and brokenness before its Author, so prevalent on every hand.

Uncomfortable Christianity

Posted on January 21, 2011 by Matt Jury under D. Martin Lloyd-Jones

The most comfortable type of religion is always a vague religion, nebulous and uncertain, cluttered up with forms and ritual…. There is nothing so uncomfortable as clear-cut Biblical truths that demand decisions.

A Caricature of Worship

Posted on January 19, 2011 by Matt Jury under Jerry Bridges

Our worship must be in harmony with what God has revealed about Himself in His Word. It is possible to have zeal without knowledge (Romans 10.2). For example, if we stress only one side of God’s attributes — say, His mercy and love — without also stressing His sovreignty and holiness, we’re not worshipping in truth.
